Ramadan: Kano Hisba Bans Tricycle Riders from Wearing Three-Quarter Trousers

The Kano State Hisbah Board announced restrictions on commercial tricycle operators during Ramadan. Mujahid Aminuddeen, deputy commander general of the board, issued a statement on the bans. He acted on directives from Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, commander general of the board.

Aminuddeen said, “Based on the directives of our Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board would conduct a special Ramadan operation. The special operation will be carried out throughout the Ramadan period in all places where people engage in immoral acts.”

Details of the Bans

Authorities banned tricycle operators, known as Adaidaita Sahu, from wearing three-quarter trousers. Additionally the board prohibited playing music that disturbed passengers and residents. Operators could not use knockouts in the city. Furthermore, indecent dressing that exposed body parts, especially by young women, faced prohibition.

The board also forbade displaying pornographic posters or stickers on vehicles. Moreover mixing unrelated men and women in tricycles remained banned. Carrying male and female passengers side by side violated the rules.

Enforcement Measures

Violators faced arrest and prosecution. Aminuddeen warned, “Any tricycle operator found violating the order will face the full wrath of the law.” The board deployed operatives to mosques during Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers. These personnel worked with security agents to maintain order.

Aminuddeen stated, “The board has also concluded arrangements to deploy its operatives to various mosques where Tarawihi and Tahajjud (Special Night Prayers) are being conducted to work with other security agents to enhance security.”

Broader Campaign

The restrictions formed part of Operation Kau da Badala. This campaign addressed immorality such as prostitution and drug abuse among youth.

Aminuddeen emphasized, “The board would not fold its arms and allow such bad behaviours and immoral activities of the tricycle riders to continue, especially during this sacred month of Ramadan.” The board targeted social vices in the transport sector.
