The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has won its first polling unit in the ongoing area council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The party defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) at polling unit 076, Sani Abacha Estate, Wuse Zone 4.
Dr Paul Moses, the ADC candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council, cast his ballot at the unit.
Out of 10 votes recorded, ADC secured seven. APC got two votes, while one ballot was declared invalid.
The election witnessed low turnout in parts of the council.
Candidate Raises Concerns Over Restrictions
After voting, Moses linked the low turnout to the movement restriction announced ahead of the poll.
He said the directive created confusion and discouraged participation.
According to him, the turnout fell short of expectations across the area.
Having lived in AMAC for about four decades, the candidate said he had never experienced such a situation. He described the atmosphere as resembling a state of emergency.
However, he commended electoral officials at his polling unit. He said they acted professionally and complied with laid-down procedures.
Moses also alleged that ADC agents faced threats in Takum Shara and areas of Kabusa ward, including Dogongada and Shereti.
Reports reaching him, he said, indicated that some agents were warned of possible harm. Such actions, he added, were meant to suppress voters and influence the process in favour of the ruling party.
The candidate further alleged that vote buying occurred in parts of the capital. He described the act as criminal and unacceptable.
Despite the concerns, Moses expressed confidence in the outcome of the election. He maintained that the will of the people would prevail and urged residents to resist intimidation while demanding accountable leadership.
