Violence Breaks Out in Mexico After Cartel Leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes Reportedly Killed

Mexican security forces killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes during an operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco state. Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” led the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The raid occurred on Sunday, and authorities confirmed his death.

Forces wounded Oseguera Cervantes in the clash. He died during transport by helicopter to Mexico City. Additionally the operation resulted in six other cartel members killed. Mexican troops recovered weapons at the scene.

Mexico’s Ministry of Defense announced the outcome on X. The ministry stated, “Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes was wounded during the raid in the town of Tapalpa and died while being flown to Mexico City.” However, officials noted no immediate arrests followed the violence.

The US Embassy urged Americans in Puerto Vallarta to shelter in place. The embassy warned of ongoing clashes and blockades. Similarly, Canada issued an advisory for its citizens in Jalisco. Global Affairs Canada stated, “Violence and roadblocks are occurring in Jalisco State. A shelter-in-place order is in effect in Puerto Vallarta.”

Oseguera Cervantes ranked among the world’s most wanted traffickers. The US offered a 15 million dollar reward for his capture. Moreover, experts anticipated power struggles within the cartel after his death.
