‘I’m Still in PDP’ — Bala Mohammed Dismisses Defection Rumours

Bala Mohammed

Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, has dismissed rumours of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview on Saturday, the governor said he remains in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite ongoing internal challenges.

“There have been rumours that I have joined the APC. I have not joined anywhere. We are where we are,” he said.

However, Mohammed acknowledged that the PDP is facing internal wrangling, but insisted that the issues are not beyond resolution.

“Certainly, we have problems with our party, and the problems are not insurmountable. We wish every political party well,” he said.

He added that politics remains dynamic, stressing the need for strategic decision-making.

“Politics is dynamic, we can be anywhere, but certainly we will not be stupid. We must be very strategic,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governor shifted focus to governance, calling on civil servants and public officials to manage resources prudently.

“In terms of governance, I call on civil servants and other government officials to please manage resources wisely,” he said.

He said his administration remains committed to delivering projects despite limited resources.

“Our agenda is to use small resources to achieve more. We are seeing improvements in infrastructure, education, and health, and we want to sustain that,” he said.

Mohammed added that his government will continue to prioritise workers’ welfare and fiscal responsibility.

“We must maintain integrity. We must pay salaries as at when due,” he said.

He also pledged to clear inherited financial obligations before leaving office.

“I made a promise that, inshallah, before I exit power, we will pay the gratuities and pensions we inherited,” he said.
