A federal high court has rejected an application by Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna state governor, seeking a variation of his bail conditions in the alleged wiretapping case.
Joyce Abdulmalik, the presiding judge, delivered the ruling on Tuesday.
Court retains bail conditions
The court held that El-Rufai must continue to meet the existing bail conditions.
The conditions require his sureties to be level 17 civil servants.
The sureties must also own property in Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja.
In addition, they must provide attestation letters from the Kaduna State Traditional Council.
Justice Abdulmalik said the conditions would remain because qualified sureties are available.
DSS closes case
Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) closed its case against the former Kaduna governor.
The agency told the court it would not call any additional witnesses.
Defence plans no-case submission
Furthermore, Paul Erokoro, counsel to El-Rufai, said the defence would file a no-case submission.
He argued that the prosecution failed to present enough evidence to sustain the charges.
Court adjourns proceedings
Subsequently, the court adjourned the matter until September 22, 2026.
The court will hear the no-case submission on that date and continue proceedings in the trial.
