Nollywood actress Georgina Onuoha speaks out on increasing domestic violence in Igbo land, urging communities to confront the troubling trend

Nollywood actress Georgina Onuoha has sparked fresh conversations after speaking on the disturbing increase in domestic violence and child abuse cases in Igboland.

According to her, respect is earned and not forced. She further condemned the behaviour of men who misuse their position as the head of the family. The actress further stated that being the head of the family is not man’s yardstick to abuse or maltreat his wife.

Furthermore, Georgina called for unity among community leaders. She questioned the push for a united Biafra nation stressing that communities should first address societal problems before political goals.

“Why is domestic violence always associated with our Igbo men and child abuse with Igbo women? Yet some of you are calling for a Biafra nation. If all of you are out together, you will end up killing one another,” she said.

The actress argued on the need to shun domestic violence and child abuse in igboland. She further urged traditional rulers, community leaders and church leaders to take urgent steps to protect the lives of women and children.

Meanwhile, her statement has generated mixed reactions on social media. While many users praised her for speaking up, others called for practical solutions from both leaders and government officials. Regardless of the differing opinions, her message has added to the ongoing conversation about security, leadership and community development in the South-East.
