FG Approves Dualisation of Bodo-Bonny Road to Link East-West Road

The federal government approved the dualisation of the Bodo-Bonny Road to link the East-West Road. Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, disclosed this to journalists during a tour of projects in the South-South at the weekend. He stated that President Bola Tinubu directed that the road from the Bodo axis be expanded to connect with the East-West Road, a major transport artery in the region.

Umahi revealed that the president also approved the installation of solar lights and tree planting along both sides of the 37.9-kilometre road linking Bonny Island to the mainland. He said, “The president has equally given approval for installation of solar lights and tree planting on both sides of the road as additional beautification.” The dualisation will be executed using concrete and is expected to be completed within eight months.

At the Akpajo Bridge section of the East-West Road dualisation, Umahi expressed satisfaction with the progress of work. However, he urged the public to play an active role in protecting the infrastructure. He frowned at the movement of heavy trucks on completed sections of the road and warned that such actions could compromise its durability.

During a visit to the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway, the minister commended GRB Construction for the rehabilitation and expansion work spanning from the Aba axis to the Imo River bridge boundary with Rivers State. As reported by ALO360, Tarilade Ewereama, Federal Controller of Works in Rivers State, confirmed that repairs on failed portions of the road had been completed. She said, “All works are up to standard, and the contractor is meeting milestones. The project will be completed before the end of the year.”
