Suspected gunmen attacked the Angwa Rukuba community in Jos, Plateau State, on Sunday, killing multiple residents and causing widespread panic in the area. The incident occurred on Palm Sunday, a significant Christian observance that marks the beginning of Holy Week.
Local sources confirmed that the attack took place in Angwa Rukuba and surrounding student residential areas, including Eto Baba. Alex Barbir, a humanitarian worker, stated in a video posted on social media platforms that “10 Christians were killed on Palm Sunday.”
A resident of Angwa Rukuba provided a different account of the attackers’ identity. The resident told TruthNigeria, “They are Boko Haram, not Fulani. We don’t know how many were killed, but many died.”
However, other local sources indicated that attackers described as Fulani militia arrived on motorcycles. These sources reported that the gunmen fired sporadically at residents and retreated toward nearby mountainous areas after the assault. Casualties from this account include multiple deaths and injuries, though exact figures remain unverified.
Witnesses reported sporadic gunfire at Angwa Rukuba Junction, where several casualties were recorded. Parts of the area were said to be on fire at the time of reporting.
Furthermore, students living in Angwa Rukuba, Eto Baba, and the surrounding school environments received advice from local sources to remain indoors and limit movement due to ongoing security concerns. As reported by ALO360, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the incident or the identity of the attackers as of the time of this report.
