Tinubu Approves Second Abuja Runway to Ease Airport Pressure

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo. Who described the decision as a critical step toward improving efficiency and safety in the country’s busiest airports.

Project to Ease Congestion and Improve Safety

The Abuja airport currently operates with a single runway, creating operational pressure due to increasing passenger traffic and flight movements.

With the new runway, authorities expect smoother operations, reduced delays, and enhanced safety standards. The project is also expected to support growing air travel demand, with Nigeria recording millions of passengers annually.

Construction to Resume Immediately

According to Keyamo, President Tinubu has directed contractors to return to site and resume work on the long-delayed project.
