Fatal crash claims two lives in Akure

No fewer than two people lost their lives in a road accident on Wednesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The crash happened in the Ijapo area of the city.

Two other victims also suffered injuries during the incident.

According to reports, the accident involved a Nissan car, a truck, and a motorcycle.

The Nissan vehicle carried registration number Ondo WWW 322 TA, while the truck had no visible registration number.


Victims were brothers riding on motorcycle

Eyewitnesses said the victims were brothers from the same family.

They were riding on a motorcycle when the speeding truck crashed into them.

The truck also rammed into the Nissan car and other nearby vehicles.

As a result, the two brothers died instantly.

The accident happened near the headquarters of the Vehicle Inspection Office.

At the time, officials were reportedly carrying out routine vehicle inspection and licence checks.


Eyewitness recounts narrow escape

A commercial driver whose vehicle was damaged in the crash described the incident.

He said he had parked to deliver goods to his employer.

However, he suddenly heard loud shouts from people nearby.

When he turned back, he saw the truck hitting vehicles and motorcycles.

He quickly ran for safety.

The driver said the truck crushed the motorcycle and killed the two victims immediately.


Police prevent attack on VIO officials

Following the crash, angry residents reportedly blamed VIO officials for the incident.

As tension rose, some youths attempted to attack the officers.

However, police officers intervened quickly.

Their action helped restore calm and prevented further violence.


FRSC blames brake failure

Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the accident.

He said brake failure caused the crash.

According to him, four people were involved in the incident.

He also confirmed that two victims died.

Police later moved the bodies to the Ondo State Hospital Mortuary.


Police begin investigation

The Ondo State Police Command also confirmed the incident.

Preliminary findings showed that the tipper truck hit the motorcycle and Nissan car from behind.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said officers responded swiftly.

They documented the scene and carried out necessary investigations.

He added that the motorcycle rider and passenger were rushed to the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure.

Sadly, doctors confirmed both victims dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, officers moved the damaged vehicles and motorcycle to the station for further inspection.

Authorities have continued investigations into the cause of the crash.
