‘Otti is closer to Tinubu than APC governors’ — Sowore

Omoyele Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, has alleged that Alex Otti is politically closer to President Bola Tinubu than many governors in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sowore made the claim during a recent interview on the Honest Bunch podcast.

He dismissed suggestions that he supports Tinubu, instead accusing other political actors of aligning with the president.

“Who is the number one supporter of Tinubu more than Alex Otti? Alex Otti and Tinubu are closer than any of these APC governors,” he said.

Sowore argued that political alliances in Nigeria often go beyond party affiliations, alleging that several opposition figures are quietly aligned with the ruling party.

He claimed that only a few governors remain outside Tinubu’s political influence.

“Maybe practically only four governors are left that have not joined him. And those ones are already with him in principle,” he said.

The activist also alleged that some opposition figures are deliberately maintaining a façade of independence to create the impression of a multi-party system.

“It might even be that they are being asked not to join yet, so it looks like there is opposition,” he said.

Sowore further criticised Nigeria’s electoral system, calling for mass civic action and warning that current political structures could undermine future elections.

He said Nigerians must adopt new strategies to demand accountability and resist what he described as systemic manipulation of democratic processes.
