‘Abba Yusuf won’t win re-election in 2027 over Kwankwaso betrayal’ — Buba-Galadima’s daughter

Zainab Buba-Galadima

Zainab Buba-Galadima, daughter of Buba Galadima, has said Abba Kabir Yusuf will not secure re-election in 2027, citing what she described as a betrayal of Rabiu Kwankwaso.

She spoke during a recent interview on ‘Mic on Mic’, a podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, where she predicted major political shifts in Kano ahead of the next election cycle.

According to her, the governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress has already cost him political support in the state.

“Yusuf will lose in Kano. From the day he declared for APC, he lost that election,” she said.

Buba-Galadima argued that beyond political calculations, the governor’s actions violated expectations of loyalty and honour in politics.

“As much as we do politics, there’s something called honour. Even if he’s doing well as a governor, he has erased that by his actions — by biting the hand that fed him. It wasn’t honourable,” she said.

She added that Yusuf’s long-standing relationship with Kwankwaso made his decision more controversial.

“For over 40 years, you were with somebody. You did not see their flaws or any offence until you wanted to join APC. So what truly is the problem?” she asked.

Buba-Galadima also dismissed claims that Kwankwaso had considered joining the APC, describing such reports as propaganda.

“That was in the beginning, but it didn’t work out,” she said, adding that there were forces opposed to the move.

She further claimed that President Bola Tinubu was not in favour of Kwankwaso joining the ruling party, arguing that such a development would have altered political dynamics within the APC.

Kano is widely seen as a key battleground state, with political realignments expected to shape the outcome of the 2027 governorship election.
