Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano state, says shared values on governance and national development informed his decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on Sunday night after his defection to the party, Kwankwaso said he and Peter Obi found common ground on key issues affecting the country.
He said both leaders aligned on priorities such as education, youth empowerment, security and national unity.
“We realised we are all on the same page — believing in education, empowerment of young men and women, security, and a peaceful, united Nigeria,” he said.
Kwankwaso said the decision followed consultations and discussions with party leaders.
He also urged Nigerians, including those in the diaspora, to register with the party ahead of the submission deadline.
“The party is submitting its register soon. I invite all Nigerians, especially those in the diaspora, to register before the submission,” he said.
Obi and Kwankwaso defected to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over internal crisis in the party.
The duo is expected to fly the flag of the NDC as Nigeria gears up for another general election in 2027
