Gunmen kill 13 in fresh Plateau State attack

Fresh violence in Plateau State has left at least 13 people dead and several others injured, deepening fears among residents.

Unknown gunmen launched a deadly attack on a community in Plateau State, killing at least 13 people and injuring several others during a late-night assault that forced residents to flee into nearby bushes.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the area around 8 p.m., targeting residents who were sitting outside their homes. Panic quickly spread across the community as families ran for safety. One resident reportedly escaped the initial attack but was later tracked down and killed by the assailants.

A local resident identified as Christopher described the situation as frightening, saying repeated attacks have left people living in constant fear.

“We can no longer sleep peacefully because these attacks keep happening,” he said.

The attack has sparked fresh concerns over insecurity in Plateau State, where communities have faced recurring violence and deadly clashes in recent years. Local leaders and youth groups condemned the killings and called for urgent action from security agencies.

Berom Youth Moulders described the incident as disturbing and accused authorities of failing to stop the repeated attacks on vulnerable communities.

The latest violence adds to growing security challenges in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, where residents continue to demand stronger protection and faster responses from law enforcement agencies.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the attack or confirm whether arrests have been made.
