Former President Advises Elderly Nigerians on Healthy Living
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised octogenarians to adopt healthy lifestyles if they want to live beyond 90 years.
Obasanjo gave the advice during the 80th birthday celebration of the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Olatunde Badmus, in Osogbo, Osun State.
The former president spoke at a book launch organised in honour of Badmus. Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke represented him at the event.
Obasanjo Lists Rules for Long Life
In a speech read by Adeleke, Obasanjo praised Badmus for his achievements in business and leadership.
He also outlined what he described as the “rules” for octogenarians who desire long life and good health.
According to him, elderly people should sleep for eight hours daily, engage in one hour of exercise, and eat only two meals a day.
“At the age of 80, let me welcome you to this club. Let me read the rules of the club to you.
“Number one, your father and mother must not be alive, you must sleep for eight hours every day, you must undertake one hour of daily exercise like walking, and you must eat only twice a day.
“With obedience to these rules, your admission is registered and your longevity beyond 90 years is assured,” he said.
Adeleke Praises Badmus’ Leadership
Governor Adeleke described Badmus, the chairman of Tuns Farms Limited, as an influential businessman and respected statesman.
He said the celebrant had contributed significantly to business, religion, and national development.
The governor also commended Badmus for his leadership qualities and commitment to community growth.
Dangote Donates N100m at Book Launch
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, also attended the event and announced a donation of N100 million during the book launch.
Dangote said Badmus had successfully balanced business and religion throughout his life.
“I was a young businessman when I met Baba. I want young entrepreneurs, especially students, to learn from this nobleman. I want to launch this book with the sum of N100m,” he said.
He added that Badmus remained disciplined and focused despite years of success in business.
Dangote also encouraged Nigerians to work together for national development and support leaders through prayers and unity.
“All of us collectively must always pray for our leaders to make sure they succeed. Once they do, it will be better for all of us,” he stated.
Ooni Calls for Patriotism
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, prayed for the celebrant and praised his contributions to business and society.
The monarch said Badmus had built a strong reputation through hard work and patriotism.
He urged Nigerians to emulate the celebrant’s dedication to national growth and peaceful coexistence.
Sultan Commissions Mosque
As part of activities marking the 80th birthday celebration, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, commissioned a mosque built by Badmus in Osogbo.
The event attracted business leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, and political dignitaries from different parts of the country.
