President Donald Trump said the Iran ceasefire is hanging by a thread after dismissing Tehran’s latest proposal to end the conflict as “totally unacceptable.”

Speaking at the Oval Office on Monday, Trump described the ceasefire between Iran, Israel, and the US as “on massive life support,” despite reduced fighting since April. He also accused Iran of refusing to cooperate on nuclear issues and abandoning earlier agreements over enriched uranium.

Iran quickly responded. Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf warned that Iran’s armed forces were prepared to respond to any aggression. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei defended Tehran’s proposal as “responsible” and “generous.”

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, Tehran’s counter-offer included demands for an immediate end to the war, the lifting of the US naval blockade, compensation for war damage, and guarantees against future attacks. Iran also insisted on maintaining sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest diplomatic clash comes after months of conflict triggered by large-scale Israeli and US air strikes on Iran in February. Although a ceasefire was introduced in April, tensions have remained high, with occasional military exchanges continuing across the region.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a major flashpoint, with Iran continuing to restrict movement through the vital oil route, pushing global oil prices higher and increasing pressure on international markets.

With negotiations stalled and both sides hardening their positions, the future of the Iran ceasefire now appears increasingly uncertain.
