Troops rescue 53 hostages in Borno

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 53 civilians after dismantling a terrorist roadblock mounted by suspected JAS/ISWAP fighters along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

The operation was carried out on Wednesday by soldiers of Sector 2, 135 Special Forces Battalion. According to the military, troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected the terrorists blocking the highway through surveillance cameras and immediately deployed a Quick Reaction Force to the area.

The soldiers engaged the insurgents in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the roadblock and retreat toward the Mangari–Dora area. Troops later cleared the withdrawal route and secured the area without further resistance.

Following the operation, the troops rescued 53 civilians believed to have been held by the terrorists and recovered eight vehicles abandoned during the attack. All rescued victims and recovered property were safely evacuated to Buratai town.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the rescued civilians are currently undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.

The military described the operation as part of its ongoing offensive against terrorist groups operating in Nigeria’s North-East.

Operation Hadin Kai also urged residents across the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing security agencies with timely information on suspicious movements.

The latest operation highlights the military’s continued efforts to restore security on major roads in Borno State and protect communities from terrorist attacks.
