President Bola Tinubu has appointed Adeyinka Fadewa, a retired major general, as special adviser on homeland security.

The appointment was announced in a circular signed by George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and issued by Ibrahim Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services Office.

According to the presidency, the appointment reflects Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration against emerging security threats.

Fadewa is a retired major general with more than three decades of military and intelligence experience spanning counter-terrorism, intelligence operations and national security strategy.

The statement said the retired officer played a key role in Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework during his time at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Between 2015 and 2021, he served as principal general staff officer to the national security adviser.

During that period, he reportedly led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA.

According to the statement, the centre brought together agencies including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and the armed forces to improve intelligence sharing and threat assessment.

After retiring from military service, Fadewa became a senior research fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.

The presidency also highlighted his scholarly contributions, including a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which focused on strengthening cooperation between civil institutions and security agencies.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa would help improve homeland security coordination and support the administration’s broader security agenda.

The president also urged him to deploy his experience and strategic expertise toward advancing national security objectives under the Renewed Hope agenda.
