The Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) has screened and cleared Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state, as its only presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general election.
The screening, which took place on Tuesday at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, was chaired by Sam Egwu, former governor of Ebonyi state.
In an X post on Wednesday, Obi said the committee carefully reviewed all his credentials, including his degree certificates, NYSC certificate, and age declarations.
The NDC presidential hopeful noted that he addressed questions bordering on his plan for Nigeria, after which he was cleared and picked up the N60 million nomination form that he had previously paid for.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election commended the screening panel and the party for deepening democracy.
I would like to commend the screening committee, led by former governor Sam Egwu, for their thorough and professional approach,” he said.
“Additionally, I appreciate our party’s leadership for upholding the democratic process.”
With Obi’s clearance as the sole aspirant of the party, he would fly the flag of the NDC as its presidential candidate in 2027.
