Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti state, says Peter Obi remains a formidable politician with a legitimate right to contest the presidency.
Fayemi spoke on State of Affairs with Edmund Obilo.
When asked if the All Progressives Congress (APC) fears Obi, Fayemi said the former Anambra governor commands serious political support.
“He’s a formidable contestant,” Fayemi said.
“Anybody who could come up with the number of votes that he did in the 2023 election could not be treated with levity.”
Fayemi said nobody should dismiss Obi’s performance in the last election.
“It shouldn’t be,” he said.
“I don’t expect the president to do that.”
The former minister also praised Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for his electoral strength.
“Even Rabiu Kwankwaso had one million-plus votes,” he said.
“It’s not easy to come by such number of votes.”
Fayemi said both Obi and Kwankwaso have every right to seek the presidency.
“These are serious-minded Nigerians,” he said.
“They have a legitimate claim to say they want to run for president because they believe they have an alternative vision.”
