Kwara Approves 30% Peculiar Allowance for Media, Agency Workers

Government Expands Welfare Support Across Public Service

The Kwara State Government has approved a 30 per cent peculiar allowance for workers in media houses, agencies, and parastatals.

These workers were previously excluded from the earlier allowance granted to mainstream civil servants.

The government announced the approval on Monday in Ilorin through the Office of the Head of Service.

Officials said the decision supports fairness and stronger inclusiveness across the state’s public service.

Move Aims to Correct Welfare Gaps

Acting Head of Service, Olufunke Shittu, disclosed the development in a statement released by Press Secretary Okanlawon Solomon.

She said the approval aligns with the government’s welfare reforms.

According to Shittu, the move will correct earlier disparities in allowance distribution.

She explained that workers in agencies, parastatals, and media houses will now benefit equally from state welfare policies.

Implementation Begins in June

Shittu said the 30 per cent peculiar allowance will take effect from June 1, 2026.

She directed all affected establishments to ensure full compliance.

The state government expects the measure to improve morale and strengthen workforce welfare.

Government Praises Workers’ Commitment

Shittu commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for continuous efforts to improve workers’ living conditions.

She also urged employees in affected institutions to remain dedicated to their duties.

According to her, better welfare should reflect in stronger commitment to service delivery.

May Salaries Paid Before Eid-el-Kabir

Shittu also revealed that the government paid May salaries ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

She said the early payment will help workers prepare for the festive period with ease.

The government also wished workers and Muslim faithful a peaceful Sallah celebration.

Welfare Measures Expected to Boost Efficiency

Shittu expressed optimism that the new allowance would improve harmony and efficiency across the public service.

She said the policy reflects the state government’s focus on fairness, inclusiveness, and worker welfare.
