Peter Obi, presidential hopeful of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Muslims to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir with faith, sacrifice and hope.
In an X post on Wednesday, Obi congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the occasion of the festival.
“I warmly felicitate with the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the world as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir,” he wrote.
Obi described the celebration as one that reflects the virtues of faith, obedience to God, compassion and love for humanity.
The former Anambra state governor urged Nigerians to focus on unity and hope during the Sallah period.
“As we reflect on the profound lessons of this solemn celebration, we are reminded of the need for selflessness, tolerance and commitment to the common good,” he said.
According to Obi, the values of Eid-el-Kabir are important as Nigeria faces economic and security challenges.
“Nigeria is a nation of immense potential currently weighed down by avoidable challenges,” he said.
“But the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir teaches us that after sacrifice comes fulfilment.”
The former Anambra governor said Nigerians must not lose hope in building a functional and just society.
“We must never lose hope in the possibility of a functional, just and productive nation where no citizen is left behind,” he said.
Obi also called for prayers for security personnel and wisdom for leaders.
“Let us use this sacred period to pray for our security forces on the frontlines, for wisdom for our leaders, and for meaningful economic relief for the masses,” he said.
He further urged Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and mutual respect across religious and regional lines.
“May this Eid-el-Kabir bring joy to our families, peace to our communities, and renewed hope to our dear nation,” he added.
