Film Workers’ Union Issues Non-Cooperation Directive
A major film workers’ union in India has called on its members to stop working with Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh over his alleged sudden withdrawal from the upcoming movie Don 3.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees accused the actor of quitting the film weeks before an overseas shooting schedule.
According to the union, producers had already spent about 450 million rupees on pre-production activities before Singh allegedly exited the project.
Union Demands Explanation From Actor
FWICE President BN Tiwari said the organisation repeatedly requested clarification from the actor.
However, he claimed Singh failed to respond to the union’s invitations.
“We’ve decided to send a message to the industry that a superstar is not bigger than the rules,” Tiwari said.
The union subsequently issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor until he agrees to meet its representatives.
Although the action does not amount to a formal ban, it has generated widespread attention across India’s film industry.
‘Don 3’ Remains One of Bollywood’s Biggest Projects
Don 3 remains one of the most anticipated films in Bollywood.
The franchise first gained popularity through Amitabh Bachchan in 1978 before filmmaker Farhan Akhtar rebooted it with Shah Rukh Khan as the lead actor.
In 2023, producers announced Singh as the new face of the franchise.
Reports said Akhtar later lodged a complaint with the union after the actor allegedly withdrew close to the production stage.
Singh Yet to Respond Publicly
So far, Ranveer Singh has not publicly addressed the controversy.
However, reports claimed his team questioned whether the union had the authority to compel him to appear before it.
A spokesperson reportedly stated that Singh holds the film industry and the Don franchise in high regard.
The spokesperson also noted that the actor deliberately chose to remain silent on the matter.
Online Reactions Divide Fans
The controversy has triggered mixed reactions online.
Some social media users argued that Singh faced unfair criticism because actors frequently leave film projects.
Others supported the producers and insisted that major productions involve significant financial commitments.
According to some critics, last-minute exits can disrupt schedules and create huge losses.
Past Controversies Resurface
The dispute has also revived conversations around the actor’s previous controversies.
In 2025, Singh attracted criticism after recreating a ritual sequence from the Kannada film Kantara during a festival event.
Critics accused him of disrespecting the cultural significance of the scene.
The actor later apologised publicly.
Meanwhile, Singh recently starred in Dhurandhar, a spy thriller that achieved strong box-office success across India.
