Navy Expands Welfare Infrastructure

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned 80 housing units and a new recreational facility in Lagos as part of activities celebrating its 70th anniversary.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, inaugurated the projects at Navy Town in Ojo, Lagos.

According to the Navy, the development reflects its commitment to improving the welfare of personnel and their families.

Housing Projects Delivered

The newly commissioned facilities include a 48-unit accommodation block for junior ratings and 32 family housing units spread across 16 blocks.

In addition, the Navy unveiled the Dolphin Golf Club House, which will serve as a recreational centre for personnel and residents.

The projects form part of ongoing efforts to provide better living conditions within naval communities.

Navy Vows to Complete Abandoned Projects

Speaking during the inauguration, Abbas said the Navy would no longer allow viable projects to remain abandoned.

He revealed that the 48-unit accommodation block had remained unfinished for more than five years before its completion.

According to him, the project symbolises the Navy’s determination to recover dormant investments and maximise available resources.

Furthermore, he disclosed that several abandoned projects across naval commands are currently under review for completion.

Focus on Personnel Welfare

The naval chief noted that the new facilities demonstrate the Navy’s transformation into a modern force with stronger welfare structures.

He explained that quality housing and recreational facilities play a vital role in boosting morale and productivity among personnel.

Additionally, he said the golf club would provide opportunities for relaxation and social interaction.

Call for Responsible Use of Facilities

Abbas urged personnel and residents to make proper use of the facilities.

He also encouraged them to conserve electricity and protect public assets from misuse.

According to him, maintaining the facilities remains essential to ensuring long-term benefits for serving personnel and their families.

Tinubu Commended for Support

Meanwhile, the Chief of Naval Staff praised Bola Tinubu for supporting the development of the Nigerian Navy.

He also commended the contractors and engineers involved in the projects for delivering quality work.

As the Navy marks its 70th anniversary, Abbas reaffirmed the service’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of its workforce.
