Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has explained why two of Nigeria’s biggest stars will not feature in the upcoming international friendlies.
Nigeria will be without Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman for their friendly matches against Poland and Portugal. Head coach Eric Chelle said Osimhen was excused to focus on resolving his club future. Lookman on the other hand, was granted rest after a request from Atletico Madrid.
Nigeria will face Poland in Warsaw before taking on Portugal in Leiria on June 10. Both players were originally included in Chelle’s squad when it was announced two weeks ago.
Speaking to the media team, Chelle said he preferred Osimhen to remain at home while his transfer situation develops. He also added that Lookman needed recovery time after a demanding season.
The absence of the attacking duo comes days after Nigeria’s victory at the Unity Cup in London, where the Super Eagles defeated Jamaica.
Chelle is now expected to rely on other members of his squad as Nigeria continue preparations for future competitive matches.
