A White House teleprompter operator is under investigation for allegedly profiting from bets on President Donald Trump’s speeches.
Federal regulators are investigating betting claims involving Gabriel Perez, a longtime White House teleprompter operator. Investigators believe Perez made more than $100,000 by placing bets on the content of Trump’s speeches through prediction market platform Kalshi.
According to sources, Perez allegedly used advance knowledge of the president’s prepared remarks to place bets on whether specific words or topics would appear. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is handling the investigation. Kalshi reported the suspicious activity to regulators after its surveillance system flagged the trades.
Settlement talks underway
Sources say Perez is cooperating with investigators and is discussing a settlement with the CFTC. The proposed agreement could require him to return his profits and avoid similar trading in the future.
The White House said staff members are expected to follow strict ethics rules. It confirmed Perez is cooperating with the investigation. Kalshi also said its policies prohibit users from betting with information obtained through their jobs.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no criminal charges filed at this time.
