Benue House of Assembly Speaker Aondona Dajoh has resigned, citing the best interest of the state. He remains in office as the Gboko West representative.
In a quiet but impactful shift in Benue State’s political space, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has stepped down from his position, citing the greater good of the state as his reason.
The news was confirmed via a resignation letter dated August 24, 2025, which was obtained by Channels Television. The letter, titled “Resignation as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly”, was personally signed by Dajoh.

In his message, Dajoh expressed that the decision wasn’t made lightly, but with the welfare of the people of Benue at heart.
“I write to resign my position as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, effective today, August 24, 2025,” the letter read.
“This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state. I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals.”

While stepping down from the top seat, Dajoh made it clear that he’s not stepping away from his responsibilities. He continues to represent the Gboko West State Constituency and has promised to stay fully engaged in his legislative duties.
“I pledge to remain committed to my duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West,” he added, reaffirming his dedication to serving his constituents.
As of now, the Assembly has not named a replacement, and discussions are already swirling about who will take up the mantle. In the coming days, the House is expected to follow due legislative procedures to elect a new Speaker in line with its internal rules.
