Nigeria secured an impressive seven-medal haul, including three gold medals, at the 2026 African Taekwondo Championships in Mali.
Nigeria strengthened its performance at the 2026 African Taekwondo Championships in Bamako, Mali, by winning three gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals at the World Taekwondo-sanctioned G-4 tournament.
Aderibigbe Faridah claimed gold in the Freestyle Poomsae category and later teamed up with Salawudeen Abdulafeez to win silver in the Pair Poomsae event. Haruna Usman also won gold in the Poomsae U-40 Male category, while Para-Taekwondo athlete Mathew Udom delivered Nigeria’s first gold medal in the -57kg Kyorugi division.
Nigeria’s bronze medals came through Joel Jordan in the men’s +87kg Kyorugi event, Chidinma Okoko in the women’s -62kg Kyorugi category, and Abdulafeez in the Poomsae U-30 Male event.
The championship was held at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maiga in Bamako, with Morocco emerging as overall champions in the Kyorugi competition after winning eight gold medals.
Nigeria’s strong medal performance highlights the country’s growing influence in African taekwondo ahead of future international competitions.
