JICA Hometown Program: Japan Shuts Down Rumors of Special Visa Deal for Nigerians

The Japanese government clearly stated that its new “JICA Africa Hometown” initiative won’t grant Nigerians or Africans Special Visa Deal or immigration benefits.

On Monday, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs debunked reports claiming Nigerians relocating to Kisarazu city would get a new visa category. They explained that at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development. JICA introduced the Africa Hometown programme to boost ties between African countries and Japanese local governments.

Afri‑Japan cooperation

Under this scheme, four Japanese cities become designated “home towns” for four African nations. JICA intends to spark cultural exchange through volunteer-led events and collaborative activities with African communities.

Japan refuses Special Visa Deal

They emphasized Japan will not issue special visas deal or immigration privileges to Africans under this programme. Reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate, the ministry clarified. Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs pledged to ensure accurate media coverage and public updates going forward.
