Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has died while being held by bandits, Katsina State Government confirms.
Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State two weeks ago, has died in captivity.
The Katsina State Government announced his death on Saturday, saying the former army officer died from complications related to diabetes and hypertension while being held by his abductors.
Abubakar and his wife were kidnapped near the Matazu area of Katsina State while travelling to attend a wedding. Days after the abduction, a video surfaced online showing the couple appealing for help. Their captors demanded the release of detained bandits and seized livestock.

Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu, said security agencies and the state government made sustained efforts to secure his release but were unable to prevent the tragedy.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the incident as a dark moment for Katsina State and Nigeria. He proceeded to call for stronger collective action against insecurity and criminal groups operating across communities.
The government has not confirmed whether the late general’s wife has been released or remains in captivity.
