Williams sisters receive Wimbledon doubles wildcard

Serena and Venus Williams will reunite at Wimbledon after receiving a wildcard entry into the women’s doubles competition.

The Williams sisters are set to make a much-anticipated return to Wimbledon after organisers awarded them a wildcard for the women’s doubles tournament.

Serena Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion, recently returned to competitive tennis at Queen’s after nearly four years away from the sport. The 44-year-old is currently competing in Berlin and will continue her comeback at the All England Club alongside her sister Venus.

Venus Williams, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has struggled in singles competition this season but remains a major figure in the sport. The 45-year-old last won a doubles match at the Madrid Open in April alongside Britain’s Katie Boulter.

Neither sister was included in the initial list of singles wildcards, although Wimbledon still has one remaining singles wildcard available to award.

Elsewhere, former British number one Dan Evans was not handed a men’s singles wildcard as he prepares to retire at the end of the season. Retiring former Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov both received wildcard entries.

Wimbledon also awarded women’s singles wildcards to French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska and several British players, including Harriet Dart, Hannah Klugman and Katie Swan.

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships begin on 29 June, with the Williams sisters’ return expected to be one of the tournament’s biggest attractions.
