Brazil beat Haiti but questions remain despite first World Cup win

Brazil claimed their first victory of the 2026 World Cup, but the performance left room for improvement.

Brazil defeated Haiti 3-0 in Philadelphia to get their World Cup campaign back on track after a disappointing draw with Morocco.

Matheus Cunha scored twice, while Vinicius Jr added a third goal before half-time as Brazil dominated the opening 45 minutes. The victory also delivered Brazil’s first clean sheet of the tournament.

However, the second half told a different story. Brazil failed to register a single shot on target after the break, while Haiti — ranked more than 80 places below the South Americans — created more chances and finished strongly despite their eventual defeat.

The result leaves Brazil on four points in Group C and on course for qualification to the Round of 32. Haiti, meanwhile, became the first team eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti described the performance as an improvement on the draw against Morocco and praised Cunha’s role in attack, though he hinted tactical changes could still come before the next match.

The win came with a setback as winger Raphinha was forced off injured before half-time. Ancelotti said the extent of the injury would be assessed further.

Teenage forward Endrick also made his World Cup debut, becoming the seventh-youngest player to represent Brazil at the tournament, though he had a goal ruled out after coming off the bench.

Brazil will face Scotland next in Miami as they aim to secure top spot in Group C and build momentum for the knockout stage.
