Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi to stand trial over rape allegation

French prosecutors confirm Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi will face trial over a rape allegation dating back to 2023.

Morocco captain and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi will stand trial in France after prosecutors confirmed a rape case against him will proceed to court.

A 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of raping her at his home in Paris in 2023. French authorities opened an investigation in March 2023, and an investigating judge ordered a trial in February 2026. Reports say Hakimi recently lost an appeal seeking to have the case dismissed.

Hakimi has consistently denied the allegation. In a statement released on Friday, the 27-year-old said he had trusted the justice system and was now looking forward to presenting his version of events in court. The accuser’s lawyer welcomed the decision, saying it gives her client the opportunity to be heard during a public trial.

The trial date has not yet been announced. Hakimi is currently with Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is expected to captain the team against Scotland. Questions also remain over whether future legal proceedings could affect his travel for matches in World Cup co-host nations.

The case now moves to the next stage of the French judicial process, where a court will determine the outcome of the allegations.
