Police rescue two abducted children, arrest four kidnap suspects in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued two abducted children and arrested four suspected kidnappers during an intelligence-led operation in Ibarapa East Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation followed a distress call on June 27 reporting that armed men invaded Ebinpejo Village near Lanlate. The attackers reportedly assaulted residents, looted homes and abducted two children.

Acting on credible intelligence and technical support, police officers, alongside the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters and other security agencies, tracked the suspects to a forest hideout. The children were rescued safely, while the four suspects were arrested.

Police said the suspects are in custody and are providing investigators with useful information to help identify and arrest other members of the kidnapping network.

The rescue comes amid rising kidnapping cases in Oyo State. In May, gunmen abducted 45 pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, with one teacher later reported killed. Those victims remain in captivity as security agencies continue rescue efforts.

The Oyo Police Command says investigations are ongoing and has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
