Norway secured a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup last 16 after Erling Haaland scored a dramatic late winner in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast in Dallas.
The match looked destined for extra time after both sides produced moments of brilliance. Antonio Nusa gave Norway the lead in the 39th minute with a stunning curling effort into the top corner. Ivory Coast responded in the second half through Amad Diallo, who came off the bench and scored a superb goal in the 74th minute.
However, Haaland delivered when it mattered most. In the 86th minute, the Manchester City striker tapped home from close range after Patrick Berg’s low cutback, sealing Norway’s historic victory.
The goal extended Haaland’s remarkable record to 13 consecutive competitive international matches with a goal. It also helped Norway win a World Cup knockout match for the first time in the country’s history.
Ivory Coast manager Emerse Fae faced criticism after initially leaving Amad on the bench in a defensive setup, despite the winger making an immediate impact after his introduction.
Norway will now face five-time champions Brazil in the World Cup last 16 as Haaland continues his impressive run on football’s biggest stage.
