Spain Beat Austria to Reach World Cup Last 16

Spain defeated Austria 3-0 in Los Angeles to book a place in the FIFA World Cup last 16 and claim their first men’s World Cup knockout win since 2010.

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute after finishing a low cross from Marc Cucurella. Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s lead midway through the second half by heading in a cross from Álex Baena. Oyarzabal then scored his second of the match late on after another assist from Cucurella, taking his tournament tally to four goals.

Spain had an earlier goal ruled out after Cucurella’s finish from a corner was disallowed for a foul on Austria goalkeeper Alexander Schlager. Despite several key saves from Schlager, Austria struggled to threaten and could not prevent Spain from cruising to victory.

The result sends the European champions into the last 16 and extends their impressive defensive record, with Spain yet to concede a goal in their first four matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Spain now move into the knockout stage full of confidence after a dominant performance against Austria.
