Bayelsa Govt Rejects PDP’s Poverty Claims, Defends Diri’s Six-Year Record

Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Government has rejected allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor Douye Diri’s administration has failed to tackle poverty and economic hardship in the state.

The government described the claims as misleading and politically motivated. It insisted that the Diri administration has recorded significant achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and economic development over the past six years.

Government Defends Diri’s Performance

Responding to the PDP’s statement, the state government said Governor Diri inherited major developmental challenges but has continued to implement projects aimed at improving the lives of residents.

It maintained that the administration’s Prosperity Agenda has produced visible results across different sectors despite the country’s economic difficulties.

Govt Lists Key Achievements

According to the government, several road projects, healthcare improvements, educational investments and economic empowerment programmes have been completed under Diri’s leadership.

It also highlighted investments in agriculture, youth development and security, arguing that the administration remains committed to improving the welfare of Bayelsans.

PDP’s Allegations Rejected

The government dismissed the opposition’s claims that hunger and poverty have worsened in the state despite increased federal allocations.

It argued that the criticism ignored ongoing development projects and interventions designed to create jobs and improve economic opportunities.

According to the government, the opposition failed to acknowledge the administration’s efforts to cushion the impact of the country’s economic challenges on residents.

Administration Urges Fair Assessment

The state government urged political actors to evaluate its performance based on facts rather than political rhetoric.

It maintained that Governor Diri remains focused on delivering sustainable development and improving the quality of life for Bayelsans.

The government added that it would continue implementing programmes aimed at promoting inclusive growth and long-term prosperity across the state.
