Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved a 13th-month salary for civil servants.
He also announced plans to recruit more teachers into public schools across the state.
The governor made the announcement during the 2026 Public Service Week Dinner and Award Night in Asaba. He said his administration remains committed to improving workers’ welfare.
Workers Get 13th-Month Salary
Oborevwori said the salary bonus recognises the dedication and hard work of civil servants.
He thanked workers for supporting the growth and development of Delta State.
“The approval is in recognition of the hard work, commitment and contributions of workers to the growth and development of Delta State.”
The announcement received applause from workers and other guests at the event.
The governor also said he is the first Delta governor to approve a 13th-month salary for state workers.
Delta to Recruit More Teachers
Oborevwori said the state government will recruit more teachers to strengthen public education.
He explained that the exercise will address the shortage of teachers in public schools.
According to him, the recruitment will also improve the quality of teaching and learning across the state.
Education, he added, remains one of the key priorities of his administration.
More Benefits for Civil Servants
The governor announced more welfare packages for senior civil servants.
He approved an increase of over 50 percent in the salaries of the Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries.
He also increased cash rewards for outstanding workers by three times.
Oborevwori disclosed that the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters are ready for commissioning. He said contractors are completing work on the internal roads.
He added that the government has already purchased official vehicles for newly appointed Permanent Secretaries.
Governor Reaffirms Support for Workers
Oborevwori assured workers that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare.
“When I see any memo concerning the welfare of civil servants, I always approve it because I know the importance of having over 60,000 workers standing with this administration.”
He also promised to continue affordable housing projects and other programmes that will improve workers’ living conditions.
The governor urged civil servants to remain committed to delivering quality public service across Delta State.
