11 Corps Members Get Extended Service Year for Violating NYSC Rules

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service year of 11 corps members in Osun State after finding them guilty of various offences committed during their national service.

The scheme also declared several corps members absconders in line with its bye-laws as thousands of others successfully completed the mandatory one-year national service.

NYSC Announces Disciplinary Measures

The Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Ekeng Kubiangha, announced the disciplinary action during the passing-out ceremony for the 2025 Batch A Stream II corps members.

According to him, 2,132 corps members completed their service and received their Certificates of National Service. However, the scheme extended the service year of 11 corps members over acts of indiscipline and other violations of the NYSC bye-laws.

27 Corps Members Declared Absconders

Kubiangha also disclosed that the NYSC declared 27 corps members absconders after they failed to fulfil the requirements of the national service programme.

He explained that the sanctions followed the provisions of the NYSC bye-laws, which prescribe penalties for misconduct and failure to complete service obligations.

Coordinator Warns Against Partisan Politics

The NYSC coordinator urged outgoing corps members to safeguard their certificates and uphold the values they acquired during the service year.

Furthermore, he cautioned them against engaging in partisan political activities ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

“I urge you to remain security conscious, law-abiding and focused on self-development and economic independence.”

He added that corps members should continue to demonstrate discipline, patriotism and integrity wherever they find themselves.

NYSC Encourages Personal Development

Kubiangha described the NYSC as a platform for personal growth and national development.

Meanwhile, he encouraged the outgoing corps members to build on the knowledge and experience gained during the service year while contributing positively to their communities.
