EFCC Hands Over Recovered Assets Worth Billions to Education Ministry

EFCC Recovered

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over recovered assets worth billions of naira to the Federal Ministry of Education, saying the move reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to redirecting proceeds of crime towards national development.

The items include 501 double-step bunk beds, 939 mattresses and 12 wooden beds with mattresses, all recovered during the EFCC’s nationwide Operation Eagle Flush against cybercrime and other financial crimes.

Olukoyede Explains Asset Recovery

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede said Operation Eagle Flush remains the commission’s largest single cybercrime operation.

According to him, the operation led to the arrest of 792 suspects, including 193 foreign nationals, who were investigated, prosecuted, convicted and later deported after serving their jail terms.

“We are gathered here to hand over recovered proceeds of crime duly forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria for the benefit of the education sector.”

Education Sector to Benefit

Olukoyede said President Bola Tinubu approved the transfer because young Nigerians are among the biggest victims of corruption and financial crimes.

In addition, he noted that the government had previously redirected recovered assets to strengthen education, including the conversion of a forfeited university into the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and the release of ₦50 billion to support the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Education Minister Commends EFCC

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa praised the EFCC for its sustained anti-corruption efforts and described the commission as a major partner in improving the education sector.

“We in the education sector have been the greatest beneficiaries of the EFCC’s actions.”

He added that the recovered hostel facilities would improve learning conditions in federal unity colleges across the country.

FG Reaffirms Commitment to Education

Alausa also said the Federal Government would continue to channel recovered assets into projects that improve access to quality education.

Meanwhile, the EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to recovering proceeds of crime and ensuring that forfeited assets benefit Nigerians through transparent and accountable use.
