Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman David Mark and Baze University founder, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, have urged graduating students to reject shortcuts to success. They also advised them to build their future on hard work, integrity and good character.

The leaders spoke on Sunday at the 2026 Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony of Pacesetters Schools in Abuja. They encouraged the graduates to pursue excellence, embrace lifelong learning and contribute positively to society.

Leaders stress integrity and discipline

Represented by his wife, Amina Titi Abubakar, Atiku urged the students to pursue their ambitions with determination and integrity.

He encouraged them to use education to promote national development and serve humanity. He also advised them against pursuing quick wealth through illegal means.

“Use your education as a tool for national development and service to humanity.”

Atiku warned the graduates against drug trafficking, prostitution and other social vices. He said such activities could destroy their future and damage their reputation.

He also urged the Class of 2026 to measure success by the positive impact they make on society instead of material possessions.

Datti calls for character and responsibility

Delivering the keynote address, Baba-Ahmed said academic qualifications alone cannot guarantee success.

He explained that education should go beyond earning certificates. According to him, it should prepare people to make meaningful contributions to society.

He added that true education progresses from literacy to formal education, participation, contribution and eventually promotion.

The former lawmaker said one of life’s greatest challenges is overcoming personal weaknesses. Therefore, he urged the graduates to combine knowledge with wisdom, experience and strong moral values.

He also advised them to uphold honesty, diligence, dedication and self-respect. He warned that dishonest paths to success could destroy their future.

Mark advocates lifelong learning

Former Senate President David Mark also encouraged the graduating students to continue learning throughout their lives.

Represented by former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, Mark said education does not end with the award of certificates.

Instead, he urged the graduates to continue acquiring new knowledge and skills. He said doing so would help them remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.

Mark also advised them to uphold integrity in every aspect of life. He described honesty and good character as essential qualities for lasting success and public trust.

School emphasises leadership and innovation

Chairman of Pacesetters Schools, Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon, described education as the foundation for personal development and national progress.

He said the school remains committed to producing graduates who are innovative, independent and capable of creating opportunities for themselves.

According to him, the institution also develops critical thinking, creativity, resilience and entrepreneurial skills alongside academic excellence.

He urged the graduating students to remain disciplined and uphold the values they had learned. He also encouraged them to strive for excellence wherever they find themselves.

The ceremony attracted several prominent personalities. They included ADC National Secretary and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former APC National Chairman John Oyegun, former Edo State Governor Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, Senator Dino Melaye and other dignitaries.
