The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed three alcohol manufacturing companies in Ota, Ogun State, over the alleged production of banned sachet and PET bottled alcoholic drinks.
The enforcement operation was led by Assistant Director of the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Kunle Ojo.
According to NAFDAC, inspectors uncovered multiple regulatory violations during visits to the affected factories.
At the first facility, officials reportedly found sachet alcoholic drinks being produced alongside large quantities of PET bottles. The factory was initially placed under regulatory hold. However, during a follow-up inspection, officials discovered that the sachet products had allegedly been removed from the premises without approval. NAFDAC described the action as a serious breach of regulatory enforcement.
At the second company, whose identity was withheld, the agency said its enforcement team caught the manufacturer allegedly continuing the production of sachet alcoholic beverages despite the Federal Government’s ban. The premises were immediately sealed.
The agency also revisited a third factory that had earlier been sanctioned in January. During the earlier operation, NAFDAC said it placed 22 production machines on hold and confiscated millions of PET bottles and sachet packaging materials for destruction.
However, officials alleged that the company later broke the regulatory seals and resumed production using the same equipment. Additional millions of PET bottles were also discovered during the latest inspection. This prompted the immediate closure of the factory.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the nationwide ban on sachet alcoholic beverages. Further stressing that it would not tolerate attempts to evade regulatory measures.
The agency urged members of the public to report the illegal production or sale of banned sachet alcoholic drinks to the nearest NAFDAC office.
