Team Nigeria concluded its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as the highest-ranked African nation after finishing seventh on the final medals table.
Nigeria amassed 24 medals, made up of 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze, securing a place among the competition’s top-performing countries.
The strong performance also ensured Team Nigeria finished inside the overall top 10, ahead of every other African nation at the Games.
Nigeria’s medal haul was driven largely by outstanding performances in athletics, where several athletes claimed gold and set new records. The country’s achievements included world-record performances and historic victories that reinforced its reputation as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations.
South Africa finished as the second-best African team after winning six gold, five silver and eight bronze medals, placing well behind Nigeria in the overall standings.
Elsewhere on the continent, Uganda finished 27th with three medals, while Namibia placed 29th, also collecting three medals. Ghana ended the Games in 30th position with two medals. Lesotho and Zambia each secured two bronze medals, while Gabon claimed a single bronze medal to complete the list of African countries on the final medals table.
Outside Africa, Fiji rounded off the top 20 with one gold and one bronze medal.
Nigeria’s seventh-place finish and double-digit gold medal count capped an impressive outing. One that made Team Nigeria one of the standout performers at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
