The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded major progress in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse. Over the past 30 months, the agency arrested 45,853 suspects, seized more than 8.5 million kilograms of drugs, and secured 9,263 convictions. It also rehabilitated 26,613 drug users and conducted 9,848 sensitisation campaigns in schools, workplaces, and communities.
During a ceremony on October 29, 2025, NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) honoured 220 personnel for exceptional service. Fifteen senior officers were also decorated for their recent promotions, recognising their outstanding dedication to duty.

Marwa praised the officers for their courage and integrity despite challenging working conditions. He noted that their work directly supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Each kilogram of cocaine seized and every cartel dismantled, he explained, delivers a strong blow to criminal networks threatening Nigeria’s safety.
However, he cautioned that the war against drugs is far from over. Officers, he said, must remain vigilant, act professionally, and always follow operational guidelines. Discipline, teamwork, and commitment remain central to the NDLEA’s continued success.
Reward System Strengthens Morale
According to Marwa, the agency’s reward system has helped sustain morale and discipline. The CCEO Commands Awards and Commendations recognise hard work, integrity, and sacrifice. He added that the system has boosted performance and encouraged a culture of excellence among personnel.
He also reminded officers to prioritise safety during operations and adapt quickly as drug cartels evolve. Continuous training and adherence to the agency’s standard procedures, he said, are vital for long-term success.
Partnerships and Ongoing Support
Marwa expressed appreciation to both local and international partners for their ongoing support. He mentioned the UNODC, UK Border Force, and the French and German governments as key allies. The National Assembly, the Attorney General, and President Tinubu were also commended for backing the NDLEA’s reforms and funding.
He further thanked the media for their partnership in raising awareness about drug abuse and promoting community education. These collaborations, according to him, are crucial to achieving a drug-free Nigeria.
