ADC Slams Tinubu Over 15% Fuel Import Duty

ADC urges Tinubu to reverse 15% fuel import duty in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged President Bola Tinubu to cancel the 15% fuel import duty, saying it will worsen the cost of living for Nigerians.
In a Friday statement, the party said the new policy will push fuel prices higher and increase the hardship citizens already face.

Policy Described as “Insensitive and Ill-Timed”

ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi described the move as insensitive, ill-timed, and unnecessary.
He said Nigerians are still recovering from fuel subsidy removal and naira devaluation.
According to him, the government should focus on reducing hardship, not adding new taxes that make life harder.

ADC Questions the Rationale Behind the Duty

The party also questioned the reason for introducing the fuel import duty, noting that the Port Harcourt refinery collapsed only months after a $1.5 billion repair project.
It added that any policy meant to support private investment should also protect citizens’ welfare.

Conclusion

The ADC called for the immediate withdrawal of the fuel import duty, stressing that Nigerians deserve empathy-driven policies. It urged the government to listen to public concerns and avoid decisions that deepen poverty.
