Dangote Refinery Warns Fuel Marketers Over Leaking Tankers

Dangote Petroleum Refinery makes a stern warning to petroleum marketers. The firm responds to issues related to fuel tanker leakages at its loading gantry. The firm acts to prevent risks associated with such leakages to their site.

Management distributes an internal circular via the Group Commercial Operations Department, whereby it mentions the number of defective tankers being received every day. Nevertheless despite prior warnings and fines imposed, such events do not come to an end.

Reasons for the Alert

The refinery observes tankers with cracked valves and loose fittings. Such defects cause dripping of fuel, hence increasing fire risks. As a result, the trend threatens personnel and infrastructure.

Management says the situation has worsened with each passing day. They point out that this level of hazard cannot persist. Besides there is a danger to the multibillion dollar refinery too, from these inferior vehicles.

Imposed Sanctions and Penalties

The authorities immediately impose stricter regulations. A leaking tanker is discovered at the gantry. They further punish the marketer involved very severely.

These penalties include temporary bans from refinery operations. The circular warns that no excuses will be accepted, hence marketers have a duty to ensure their trucks meet safety standards.

Broader Context in Nigeria

Nigeria is persisting with old fleets of tankers. Regulators push for improved inspections, while enforcement remains weak. For example, it reports 80 tanker fires from 2020 to 2025 by the Federal Road Safety Corps.

These incidents claim 555 lives and injure many. Furthermore, the National Emergency Management Agency records over 100 accidents with more than 1,500 deaths. In 2024 alone, 13 explosions killed 85 people.

Call for Cooperation

The refinery appeals for marketers’ full support. They urge stakeholders to use only healthy trucks for loading. In conclusion, the management thanks the customers for understanding and cooperation. This step has highlighted safety in fuel distribution. It inspires better maintenance across the industry.
