Trump criticises House vote to limit Iran war powers

The US president has called lawmakers “unpatriotic” after a House vote challenging his authority in the Iran conflict.

US President Donald Trump has criticised members of Congress who backed a resolution aimed at restricting his ability to continue military action against Iran.

The House of Representatives voted 215-208 on Wednesday to approve a measure that would require Trump to withdraw US forces from the conflict or seek formal congressional approval. Four Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the resolution.

Trump dismissed the vote as “meaningless” and accused lawmakers of undermining his efforts to negotiate an end to the war. He described the Republicans who supported the measure as “grandstanders” and said the move was unpatriotic.

The resolution is largely symbolic and faces significant legal and political hurdles before it could have any practical effect. However, the vote marks the strongest congressional push yet to challenge the administration’s handling of the Iran conflict.

The House vote highlights growing political pressure on the White House as debate over US involvement in the Iran war continues.
