The Okitipupa Local Government in Ondo State confirmed that police arrested two suspects linked to last weekend’s attack on Fuji superstar Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere. The assailants targeted the singer during a burial ceremony at the Government Field in Okitipupa.
Obesere’s band members faced attacks while performing for guests. One musician tried to fend off the thugs but suffered a stab wound.
Obesere Describes Harrowing Assault
Obesere’s media manager, Ayonla Obesere Althentic, said the singer and his team faced multiple groups of attackers as they tried to leave.
“The attackers confronted me while I carried a bag of money. I tried to leave peacefully, but they beat me, dislocated my shoulder, and struck me with a knife while I attempted to reach the car,” the statement said.
The thugs overpowered the team, stole the bag of money, and continued harassing Obesere despite his attempt to pacify them with cash. His team escorted him to safety for medical attention.
Authorities and Management Respond
Obesere’s team called for justice, emphasizing that such attacks on performers at public events cannot continue. They reported the incident to the Okitipupa Police Division and urged authorities to prosecute those responsible.
The Okitipupa Council Chairman, Adrew Ogunsakin, condemned the incident as unacceptable. His press secretary, Tosin Ayejusunle, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects.
Ogunsakin also reached out to Obesere’s camp and arranged a meeting with the singer and his management to prevent future attacks and address concerns.
