The Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Rivers State, and the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, have confirmed receiving a combined ₦91.97 million from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to cover institutional charges for 536 students.
According to the institutions, the disbursement forms part of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
FUET receives ₦85.12 million
FUET confirmed that it received ₦85,119,595 to pay the institutional fees of 395 students.
In a letter dated May 22, 2026, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prince Ch. Mmom said NELFUND released the funds in three batches.
The university said the first batch covered 118 students with ₦25,915,398. The second batch catered for 142 beneficiaries, who received ₦30,404,462.
Meanwhile, the third batch covered 135 students and amounted to ₦28,799,735, bringing the total disbursement to ₦85,119,595.
NILEST confirms ₦6.85 million
Similarly, NILEST acknowledged receiving ₦6.85 million to cover the registration fees of 141 students.
In a letter dated June 1, 2026, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Auwal Imam, confirmed that the institute received the fifth, sixth and seventh tranches of the NELFUND disbursement.
According to the institute, the fifth tranche provided ₦3.628 million for 79 students, while the sixth tranche covered 61 students with ₦3.173 million.
In addition, one student received ₦49,950 under the seventh tranche.
Institutions commend NELFUND
Both institutions praised NELFUND for expanding access to higher education through the student loan programme.
They said the intervention has reduced the financial burden on beneficiaries and enabled many students to continue their education without disruption.
Furthermore, the institutions expressed appreciation for NELFUND’s continued partnership in supporting the Federal Government’s education financing initiative.

NELFUND is expected to continue disbursing approved student loans to eligible tertiary institutions and beneficiaries as the Federal Government expands access to higher education financing across the country.
