Senate President Akpabio says he's been Transformed by God

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has shared how the special grace of God has transformed his life. He encouraged Nigerians to dedicate themselves to God in whatever role they occupy.

Akpabio made the remarks on Saturday during the blessing and commissioning of the Regina Coeli Parish Rectory in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Embracing Faith and Service

“As the highest-ranking Christian in government, God has graciously prepared me for the responsibilities I face,” he said. “I am blessed to be a Catholic, though I respect all denominations. Many attend church without understanding its true power.”

He added, “If God can elevate me from a humble beginning to Senate President, the number three citizen of Nigeria, He can do the same for anyone. Position yourself and prepare for His blessings.”

Commitment to God’s Work

Akpabio stressed that staying transformed requires active participation in God’s work. “Even small contributions matter. When you help build a church, God recognizes it,” he said.

“I always feel honored to support the church’s development. Nothing is too big for God. Soon, I will invite Nigerians from all walks of life to commission a new place of worship at the National Assembly in Abuja,” he revealed.

Praise from Church Leaders

The Catholic Bishop of Uyo, Most Rev. John Ayah, thanked Akpabio and his wife, Dr. Unoma Godswill Akpabio, for hosting Catholic bishops in Ikot Ekpene last September. He also acknowledged their support in commissioning the Rectory.

The bishop advised Akpabio to ignore criticism, saying, “People speak because of your importance. Your position in Nigeria naturally attracts attention.”
